Cross browser support always been an issue for any web designer for age. There is no real standard that supported in all browser, even the standard was created by W3C years ago.
Internet Explorer has its way to calculate and display the style sheet, while Mozilla, who has been credited to be the W3C standard best friend, also has some issues around. Google Chrome is the newest in town but also not 100% well support.
IE is the biggest problem for designers but it's undeniable that majority of the web users use it...damn!!
The most ridicolous is the IE6, IE7 and IE8 has different output itself... That make me curious, are they come from the same Microsoft's development team???
Well, today I just found out that CSS is not only a problem for web browsers only. It's also an issue for mail client too!!!
I'm working with mailing list designers for a while and we're facing a problem with how to success in all mail client support.
First of all, we've to clarify that there are two categories of mail client which are Desktop Application Client and Web Client. Desktop Application Client is a email software that you installed in your own computer such as Microsoft Outlook, Windows Mail, Mac Mail, Thunder Bird, etc. They are having different CSS processor engine and you need to know how each one threats CSS' feature.
That's pain enough but wait, I mentioned Web Client too? Sounds awkward? Yes...at least for me. Yahoo Mail, Live Mail (or Hotmail), Gmail and the others, they process the style sheet code in a different way. And even the old and new version of the same web mail provider too!
Fortunately, I've found a website that showing all the cross mail client CSS support table. If you're designing the e-newsletter or e-mail, I recommend you to start looking at these table for starting your structure design.
Another issue to be concern is HTML's doctype. I'm trying to find out but not right now. Will let you guys know later.
Enjoy Coding!
